Spark Testing &
Holiday Detection
Galaxy Engineering provides high-voltage spark testing, also called holiday detection, to check the integrity of coatings and linings and find pinholes and defects before they cause corrosion.
How spark testing works
An electrode at high voltage is passed over a coated steel surface. Where the coating is intact, it insulates and nothing happens. Where there is a pinhole or thin spot, called a holiday, a spark jumps to the steel and shows exactly where the defect is.
Key Features
- NDT
- Coating integrity
- Pinhole detection
- Corrosion prevention
Common Questions
What is holiday detection?
It is a high-voltage test that finds pinholes and defects, known as holidays, in coatings and linings.
Why is spark testing done on coated tanks?
A small defect in a coating can let corrosive contents reach the steel, leading to corrosion and premature equipment failure.
